Hello Grade 11 and Grade 12 Students and Parents/Guardians:

The newly created Tutoring in the OCDSB initiative will serve to provide additional support for our destreamed classes.

We invite applications from interested grade 11 and 12 students to provide small group, paid tutoring ($25/h), to students in destreamed courses during their spare period(s) or during lunch period or after school.

Grade 11 and grade 12 student tutors would be working in a specific destreamed classroom during their spare period and would provide support to an identified group of students up to five, in an ongoing model of support in the classroom until January 23, 2023.

If interested, please complete this application form. Applications are due by Thursday, December 1.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Question #1: Does a student tutor have to be in the same course section all week? For example, could a student tutor be in one section for 3 days a week and one section for two days a week?
Answer: By the time student tutors are in place (applications submitted, reviewed, matches, HR processes etc.), it will be early December. The goal is to maximize support for the students who are most at risk of not earning their credit (group 1). The second group of students would be students in the range of 50s (group 2).

Question #2: What will be the focus of the tutoring?
Answer: Teachers who request a student tutor would be responsible for directing the work of the tutor in their class (for example, which group of students and how the teacher would like them supported). *Note: only teacher who request a student tutor can have a tutor assigned to their course.

Question #3: Can the student tutor withdraw the students?
Answer: No, the student tutor must work in the classroom under the supervision of the classroom teacher. This is a PUSH-IN support.

Question #4: Will there be an opportunity to request a student tutor in semester two classes/ beyond January 23?
Answer: We will be repeating this process such that teachers will be able to express interest in their semester two destreamed courses and such that students will be able to express interest in becoming a student tutor. Tutoring support will end on March 31 as per the Ministry of Education timelines for these tutoring funds.

Question #5: Can we also run a lunch hour program? Can the tutors work after school?
Answer: Yes, if there are interested student tutors and there is a staff member or administrator who will directly supervise the students.

Question #6: What is the work of the tutor?
Answer: The tutor will be following the direction of the destreamed teacher as to which area of support (content, skills etc.), which small group of students. Please note the student tutor should not be asked to complete tasks such as photocopies etc.
